STAMFORD UNDER 18s 0 ALFRETON TOWN 2

The Daniels bowed out of the FA Youth Cup on Wednesday evening as a slick and pacy Alfreton side booked a First Round derby tie at Mansfield Town.

Injuries and unavailability restricted the home selection and first half injuries to midfielder Todd Whitby and striker Alex Harrison hardly helped the cause.

Harrison almost gave Stamford a second minute lead with a rising drive but the visitors mobility soon had the Daniels at full stretch with Massiah McDonald volleying just wide before Alfreton took a 21st minute lead, Jamie Simpson’s cross from the right picking out Cameron Martin who drilled home a low shot.

Rory Bonsher almost levelled within seconds, charging down a clearance but his shot was wide of the far post.

Ricki Saxby almost doubled Alfreton’s lead just before the break, but the visitors strengthened their grip on the tie four minutes after the restart, Jacob Walters-Lang’s cross from the right swept home by Massiah McDONALD.

Shane Shardlow had the ball in the net from a corner only for a foul to be awarded, and Stamford almost cut the deficit on the hour. Casey Kemp was thwarted by a well timed tackle as he poised to shoot but Bonsher followed up with a low shot which was just wide of the target.

Liam Tunstall saved well after Saxby broke through on the left while at the other end Ryan Oliver shot wide from the edge of the box.

Stamford: Tunstall, Asher, Vorley, Sparks, Firman, Whitby (Dunn h/t), McDonald, Bonsher (Strange 89), Harrison (Kew 41), Oliver, Kemp. Sub not used: Jones.

Attendance: 110.
